Mythic Legends Beginner’s Guide: Tips, Tricks, and Strategies

Mythic Legends is a simple but addictive game from Hyper Dot Studios that uses the mechanics of auto-chess. In this game, you try on the role of a legend – the commander of heroes – and you battle other legends (read: players) trying to win glory, fame and fortune for yourself and your comrades. Mythic Legends is available on both the Google Play Store and the App Store.

Although the game itself is quite simple, newcomers to the auto-chess genre can get a little confused about how to get stronger. If you are one of those people, or if this is your first experience with Auto Chess, you’ve come to the right place.

Manage your heroes

I mean, you’re already sort of the master of your heroes. But if you want to get the most out of your loyal servants, you need to fully understand the intricacies of each hero.

Hero basics

All heroes have characteristics, and said characteristics determine how well a hero behaves in battle. Even heroes of the same class can have very different characteristics; for example, you may have a special DPS hero with high attack speed and good damage per hit, or you may have a slower hero with absolutely titanic damage.

You can check a hero’s stats by clicking on his portrait in the battle menu (the middle axis icon). Here is a breakdown of what each stat does, if you need it.

• Health is how much damage the hero can take before he falls.
• Defense is a measure of the hero’s resistance to damage.
• Attack speed is how often the hero attacks per second.
• Damage is the damage dealt by the hero per attack.
• DPS is the amount of damage the hero can deal per second. For those with a penchant for math, DPS equals damage/attack coefficient.
• Attack range depends on how many cells the hero can attack from. An attack range of 1 means that the hero is a melee fighter.

In addition to these characteristics, each hero has one skill that they will use at every opportunity. These skills are very powerful and can turn the tide of battle, so team building based on these skills is not a bad idea.

Hero classes

Heroes also have different classes, which not only give players a rough idea of that hero’s role in combat, but also affect what bonuses they provide.

The different classes of heroes in Mythic Legends are Blade Master, Knight, Warlock, Priest, Ranger and Assassin.

• Blade Masters are frontline fighters who focus on dealing damage. When a Blade Master falls in combat, allied Blade Masters gain a powerful attack boost.
• Knights believe that defense is the best offense. These stalwart warriors boast high defense and health, but do not deal as much damage as other classes. Knights passively boost the defense of nearby allies.
• Priests support their allies with healing and enhancing magic. Priests complement each other, increasing an ally’s healing by up to 40% the more priests.
• Sorcerers use arcane arts to cast spells on enemies from afar. Sorcerer spells ensure that their attacks will penetrate enemy armor or even completely ignore it at higher levels.
• Swift and deadly Rangers use their weapons to strike enemies without fear of retaliation. Their deep understanding of ranged combat allows the rangers to launch additional attacks with every shot from time to time.
• Assassins can quickly massacre enemy heroes before retreating into the shadows – a good thing, too, since assassins are not as good at direct combat. Assassins’ knowledge of the art of assassination gives each of their attacks a chance to deliver a critical hit, dealing massive damage.

Hero Factions

Each hero in Mythic Legends not only has a class, but also a faction they belong to. Sending enough heroes from one faction will give you access to powerful passive bonuses.

The more heroes of the same faction you place, the greater the bonus will be. At the same time, be aware of the faction bonus limit, as you will probably benefit more from splitting your team into different factions than from overloading only one faction.

Update your Legend

It’s easy to get bogged down in pumping up your heroes. After all, they are the centerpiece of Mythic Legends because they always beat the crap out of other heroes (or beat the crap out of other heroes). But don’t forget to improve your Legend – your main hero stays on the platform, as their enhancement is crucial to your heroes’ performance.

Level up

Legends improve in the same way that heroes do. To improve your legends, collect cards in the store or in battles, then click on the battle tab to upgrade your legend once you have enough cards. You’ll also need some gold to level up.

One of the first and perhaps most important benefits of increasing your legendary level is that the higher the level of a legend, the more heroes it can use at once. This immediately gives the player with more legends an advantage, even if only in sheer numbers.

Increasing the level of your legend also increases their health, allowing them to take more hits before they drop out of the tournament. Remember: every life point that is not your last is a resource!

Legendary Skills

Legends also have powerful skills that can both enhance their heroes and allowing the legends themselves to participate in the battle.

Legends have both a passive skill, which is always on, and a trigger skill, which activates automatically when certain conditions are met. These trigger skills can range from directly damaging your opponents’ heroes to enhancing your own team. Because these skills are so powerful, I highly recommend using your legend as the core of the team you are building, i.e. building around your legend rather than the other way around.

Battlefield Tactics

Mythic Legends is a full auto-combat game, in which the player only participates in the preparation phase. This does not mean that you can relax. Preparing your team to counter opponents is vital to winning clutch rounds in tournaments.

While simply winning every battle you participate in is a surefire way to win, there are times when that is simply not possible. Remember that a tournament lasts until there is only one player left, so tactically and carefully choosing your heroes, countering your opponent, deploying formations, and choosing the right artifacts can help you tremendously.

Hero Skills

Heroes don’t just mindlessly beat each other up. Each hero has a unique skill that can drastically change the way they work and change their role in your team. Whether it’s direct nukes, selfbuffs and steroids, or crowd control, be sure to choose the right hero for the job.

Remember that you have no control over when a hero will use his skill. Your heroes will simply use their skill on the nearest possible legal target (unless said skill has another target AI) when their mana is full. Mana is replenished when heroes hit each other.

Placing Heroes

How you place your heroes on the field is also an important factor in winning or losing. Naturally, you will want to keep your thinner ranged heroes as far away from the front line as possible. On the other hand, hero skills can play a big role in where you should place your troops.

Take a look at your opponent’s team

Knowledge is power, and the preparation phase before battle gives you the most power.

Before the battle begins, you can click on your opponent’s name (conveniently labeled with a spy button) to see their board, which will show what heroes they plan to fight you with. That’s not all, as you can click on their heroes on the board to see their levels and skills. This way, you can get information about their overall strategy, as well as what you can do to counter their games.

And don’t worry, Mythic Legends runs asynchronous PVP. You’re not actually wasting a real person’s time here.

The right tool for the job

Since Mythic Legends is a straightforward PVP game, it’s a little easier to narrow down the heroes to a list of levels. However, even popular level lists separate heroes depending on where you are in the game – for example, a hero who boasts stellar performance at the beginning of the game may quickly drop in effectiveness as you move up in the rankings.

With this in mind, it is more important to have the right hero for the right job. Don’t forget to constantly improve your heroes, and also pay attention to the meta of the game: ask veteran players for their opinions on teams and try to observe which legend/hero combinations you lose the most.

Since the heroes available to you depend on the highest area you’ve unlocked, don’t neglect playing random tournaments. This ensures that you can keep up with your opponents and have the newest, best heroes (if you’re lucky) to fight.

Winning and losing

The winner of a round in Mythic Legends deals damage to their opponent based on three things: the number of heroes remaining, a fixed bonus to damage from their legend, and a multiplier to the above two, depending on which round it is. If the bold text doesn’t impress you, let me repeat: the damage dealt by your heroes and lore is multiplied depending on which round it is.

This multiplier is the key to winning matches because the multiplier equals the round. This means two things: that the earlier your losses, the less they will fail, and that winning later battles-usually 4 and up-is crucial to winning the game, since the damage dealt to enemy legends is absolutely enormous.

For perspective, if you won your first round with 4 remaining heroes, you would inflict 4 + 1 (legendary damage bonus) on the enemy. However, if you won the same battle as the third round, you would deal (4 + 1) * 3 damage, meaning you would inflict a whopping 15 damage on your enemy.

Bonus Choice

At the beginning of each round, with the exception of the first round, you will be allowed to choose a bonus (which the game calls artifacts) that will last until the end of that tournament. Usually these are passive bonuses that can allow you to counterbomb your opponent’s team even without certain heroes. However, sometimes you will receive a hero card that you can keep. These cards can be used for mid-battle improvements or simply to help you move to the next level of that hero’s improvement.

Not only are artifacts very powerful, but they also build up very strongly. The more stars an artifact has, the more powerful it is. Be sure to pick up artifacts that either complement your build or help repel enemy attacks more effectively. Another thing to note is that you can also check which artifacts your opponent has chosen by clicking on their name before starting the round.

Look for extra power

Although the basic gameplay cycle of Mythic Legends is pretty straightforward, you’ll have to work hard if you want to stay competitive. To do this, you’ll need to get as many free resources as you can from both free items and quests.

Daily offerings

The Mythic Legends store offers many items, most of which are paid for with either gems or real money. If you don’t want to spend money, you can take advantage of daily offers. These offers offer many heroes which you can buy with gold or gems. Although heroes bought with gold are rarely, if ever, above rare, they can still be a formidable fighting force if you collect enough of their cards.

The daily offerings are updated every day, as their name would suggest. I would suggest checking these daily offerings first thing when you enter the game.

Battle Chest

A Battle Chest is a free loot box that is limited by both time and battles. To access your battle chest, you must spend 20 battles while the chest is available. Once opened, this chest will provide you with resources, mostly gold and low rarity cards. The battle chest is not impressive, but it provides a basic way to create reliable low rarity heroes.

Prestige Points

Whenever you participate in a tournament, whether you win or lose, you will always receive prestige points, those blue points with the laurel badge.

These points are important because not only do they unlock new arenas and give you intermediate achievements on the map (the last button on the right side of the main menu, and don’t forget to click “Claim Rights”), but they also fill up your daily reward scale.

This reward lane is very important to fill, as it gives you card sets and resource chests that you will need to enhance your arsenal of legends and heroes.

Assignments and Battle Pass

The last set of free items comes from the Battle Pass. This seasonal activity includes both daily and weekly quests to replenish your battle pass, as well as free and paid versions of the battle pass. There are no prizes for guessing which one gives you more rewards.

By completing daily quests, you can accumulate experience, which can then be used to earn battle pass rewards each time you level up. It is worth noting that the daily quest “win one tournament” can be repeated indefinitely until you reach level 30 in the battle pass.

Note that the battle pass goes up to level 50, after which you can continue to gain experience, receiving a small reward each time you fill up the scale.
